Why isn’t 8 hours 45 minutes equal to 8.45?
Clock time is not decimal. Hours and minutes use a 60-minute hour, so 8 hours 45 minutes = 8 + 45/60 = 8.75, NOT 8.45. Writing the colon as a decimal point is the usual trap: 8:45 is eight hours and forty-five minutes, not eight and forty-five hundredths.
